Video hints and tips

1. Shoot on the best equipment that you can, The more expensive the equipment, the better quality video you will take as a general guideline. (although some of the new cameras are “HD”, be careful that they do not require some specialist software to edit them).  So it is best to shoot on DV or DVCam as this can be readily edited in a standard video editing software.

2. Use a high quality FLUID HEAD tripod, this will ensure smooth pans and tilts.  Always shoot on a tripod.

3. Allow 5 seconds for the camera to run up to speed and not clip the front of the shot as well as 5 seconds after the shot – this is to allow for dissolvers at the edit stage.

4. Don’t wiggle the camera all over the place.  This makes the video look amateurish and makes the viewer feel queasy!.

5. Be wary of shooting directly against the light  as the smaller “auto” cameras will set their exposure for the brightest part of the shot and you end up with a silhouette – very moody but not good for showing the subject!

6. Also make sure that the cameras have a facility to manually white balance for the correct colour balance.

7. Always use fresh, branded tape.

This will help ensure best results for showing your pride and joy off in the best possible way!!
